The dog house or an ice-cream?

9 Commentsby Juliette  |  08.14.10  |  Domestic Diva, Latest News

I’m off to Italy for a holiday on Monday morning first thing and can’t wait. James and Anna are currently in (Wonderful, wonderful) Copenhagen as James is conducting a concert over there. The programme is the American Songbook so I’ve loved listening to him learning his scores – some fantastic original orchestrations (they don’t arrange them like that anymore!).

However,  he was most definitely in the dog house a couple of weeks ago when he checked his contract More »

Toy Story 3

One of the advantages of having young children is they provide you with the perfect excuse to go and see films you might otherwise be embarrassed to be seen at. This leads me nicely onto a review in the Times for Toy Story 3 which I read. It said something along the lines of:

It’s just a story about some toys. But what a story, and what toys! More »

Proms in the Park and the Buggy Thief

BBC Proms in the Park 2009, Salford

We have a bright red double buggy that sits permanently on the pathway up to our front door. It can just about go through the door at a push, but takes the paint off the hallway and obviously once you’ve pushed it in, you are literally caught between the buggy and a hard place, so we have taken to parking it outside the front door on fine days but using a bike lock to attach it to our fence. Well, we do live a stones throw from Deptford!

I woke up this morning to discover the buggy hadn’t been nicked. Oh no, just the bicycle lock. The thief clearly doesn’t have twins so kindly left the buggy behind. Does that mean I should buy a padlock to lock the bicycle lock more securely to the fence before attaching the buggy to the bicycle lock. Ridiculous.

I’ve uploaded a couple more live dates on the website and I’m glad to say the Proms in the Park is confirmed More »

Kilworth House Prom

Me relaxing in luxury at Kilworth???

Greetings from Kilworth House. Had a great concert last night (was lovely to see David and his wife in the audience cheering me on) and after a lovely whole nights sleep in hotel luxury,  I’m about to warm up for concert no.2 tonight. I feel a little guilty as when I spoke to James at about 9am this morning he said he’d been up for hours and twice in the night for the boys but it was his turn to work last weekend…

He told me he had a very strange dream where his Dad was getting really cross about the twins wrecking their house and breaking everything in it (we are visiting them next weekend and the house is for sale) so James jumped to the boys defence and pointed out that the pigs running around the kitchen were far more likely to blame. (James’ Dad keeps a couple of pigs in the garden – the plot thickens.) Then he was woken up by Arthur screaming so we don’t know More »

Brian Blessed

As you can see from the picture we had Mr Blessed in the studio last week and boy oh boy, is he larger than life! The man can tell a tale or two and has some incredible stories about Everest and Mallory. The babies found him very entertaining too but think it was the beard that did it rather than the conversation. He was with us doing some voiceover work for The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme – all for free which is pretty nice of him really.

We spent an idyllic weekend in Cornwall at a family wedding in the beautiful church of St Endellion made famous by the classical music festival held there (established by the late Sir More »

The prettiest village in England?

2 Commentsby Juliette  |  06.22.10  |  Domestic Diva, Latest News, Performances

What an evening. Just sat down. Why oh why does Seth insist on adding his own offering to the bath water?

Enough of that though and onto a mention of perhaps the prettiest village in the country; Naunton. I have a feeling there is a price tag attached to living in such a village but a friendlier community you won’t find. The only downside of the outdoor Prom concert James and I were giving last Saturday there, was the weather. The attached picture really doesn’t show the extent of my refrigeration. Boy was it cold, even with tights and boots under my evening dress. One of the highlights of the evening was to see the lovely David (of forum moderator fame) and Tricia again. I was totally bowled over by their brilliant retro camper van whose charms were only enhanced by the fact that it was parked by a babbling brook with a view to die for. More »

24 hours kid free…

9 Commentsby Juliette  |  06.08.10  |  Domestic Diva, Latest News

It was half term last week and my Mum offered to have the kids overnight. I was going to ask her whether she was insane when something told me I should say nothing but embrace the opportunity. Offers like this one don’t come round very often when you have 1 year old twins and an 8 year old who can out-chat Oprah.

But the pressure of making sure we enjoyed the 24 hours of freedom to the maximum was immense. The food had to be perfect, the hotel good,  a bit of culture to visit and most important of all, the sleep had to be guaranteed. Not for us a hen/stag party going on in the bar downstairs. More »

The Habit of Art

2 Commentsby Juliette  |  05.24.10  |  Domestic Diva, Latest News

I took James to see The Habit of Art last week. It’s a new play by Alan Bennett and is largely based on the relationship between Auden and Britten and as I’ve sung several of the results of their collaborations, it was of particular interest to me. It is funny, extremely funny in fact, but I always take a while to start laughing out loud in the theatre and am therefore surprised by those near me who guffaw within 1 minute of the curtain going up. It really puts me off getting my laughing gear into action, as if I’m inhibited by their lack of inhibitions…
