Robert Farnon rules!
I thoroughly enjoyed myself at Symphony Hall, Birmingham last Friday. The CBSO really are an amazing orchestra and it was such a treat to perform with them for only my 2nd time. Stephen Bell, the conductor, found the original arrangement of A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square by Robert Farnon which Sinatra used and recorded. It’s an absolute gem and was rather like having a masterclass in orchestration for me. It was also lovely to have David (of forum and blog fame) and his family in the audience cheering me on but I was rather disappointed that they shut the bars in the Hall after the concert so we couldn’t have a drink.
I have some very exciting news I can only hint at for the moment. James and I are working round the clock on arrangements for a new album for a fantastic tenor who is a new signing for Decca. And no, he doesn’t sing on irritating adverts on telly for those of you guessing. We are off to Denmark this weekend to start recording the CD and as yet only have 3 tracks prepared. I’m quite used to the boys keeping me up half the night but it’s been a while since an ‘essay crisis’ has. With our childminder still on honeymoon (how selfish), we are relying on Grandparents and Aunts and Uncles for the bits abroad and pretending we are bats/badgers/vampires etc the rest of the time. The local takeaway thinks its Christmas a month early!

Sorry to hear you missed out on an after-concert drink with David and family, but pleased you enjoyed the concert itself. Like David, hope you enjoy some well-earned sleep in the near future! Enjoy Denmark, best of luck with the new album for the tenor.
