Money, money, money
Those of you who don’t listen to Classic Fm may not know that Craig Ogden, the fantastic guitarist who I duetted with on Venezia, has a new album out. James and I did a couple of arrangements for it and I’m pleased to say it went
straight into the classical charts at no.1. Not that we will benefit financially by it’s sales; if you produce an album, you get points on it (and we all know that points mean prizes, or rather money in this case). However, if you do the musical arrangement you get paid a fee but nil points (to be said in the appropriate Eurovision accent). Still, it’s nice to see something we were involved with do well.
Speaking of money, we received our PRS statement today which is always exciting as you earn extra money you didn’t bargain for and also find out where your music has ended up. The money you earn is from your work being played and can be anything from a few pence to several thousand pounds (if you are Mark Ronson!).
SO:
- £360 from South Africa for The Kumars at no.42
- 7p (yes pence) from a juke box playing a Katherine Jenkins track
- £12.50 for a comedy pilot in Japan
- £12.61 for me singing the Habanera under adverts on Channel 4 for repeat Friends episodes
Not sure which of those is the weirdest way of earning a living. Surely a comedy about an Indian family set in England won’t be funny in South Africa and how on earth does Carmen sits under Friends???

How much will the tax man take off you for that huge benefit you’ve earned then Juliette? I listen to Classic fm regularly, and so yes, have heard of Craig Ogden and his new album. Well done to all for the number one slot.

Life has many corners, so does the world. To get pickings from places least thought of is news – good news. Well done.

Juliette,
Any monies coming in is good monies coming in, better than viccy verca.
Great to hear about Craig Ogden. Classical guitarists amaze me, and I do so admire their skill as all I can bang out that sounds anything like, is Jailhouse Rock
