Brian Blessed

As you can see from the picture we had Mr Blessed in the studio last week and boy oh boy, is he larger than life! The man can tell a tale or two and has some incredible stories about Everest and Mallory. The babies found him very entertaining too but think it was the beard that did it rather than the conversation. He was with us doing some voiceover work for The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme – all for free which is pretty nice of him really.

We spent an idyllic weekend in Cornwall at a family wedding in the beautiful church of St Endellion made famous by the classical music festival held there (established by the late Sir Richard Hickox). I sang Fields of Gold but in 6/8 and much slower (if you know what I mean by all that), otherwise it could have been the aural equivalent of my Dad disco dancing.

I have found a rival for Naunton as the prettiest village in England;

Port Isaac is my new love – fickle aren’t I?

    I can imagine Brian Blessed was very shy and retiring!!!
    the wedding sounds lovely.
    As a place by the sea I agree, Port Isaac is a bit special….but in the depths of winter??

    I love Fields of Gold – it should be sung slowly anyway in my humble opinion ;-)

    No idea where Port Isaac is so must do some googling! I rememeber freaking when I saw anyone with a beard (actually not a lot has changed!!)…hope the boys are doing well :)

    My enduring memory of Brian Blessed is as the leader of the winged troupe in the Buck Rogers film, suited him to a tee!
    Wish I could have been there to hear you singing ‘Fields of Gold’, lovely song. During my time in the Royal Navy, the road from Cape Town to the naval base at Simonstown always reminded me of the picturesque Cornish villages.

    I thought you sang it beautifully (and I was sitting close enough to hear quite well!)
