Dubbing the singing for a film
I’ve spent the weekend dubbing the singing voice of the actress, Emma Williams for the film
Bet on Love.
I have to say, it’s not as easy as it looks. I feel a little sheepish as I’ve been recording the singers who are dubbing some of the other actors and I made Peter Savage, the lovely bass baritone, sing one phrase about 30 times to get it exact. Having said that, he is the singing voice of Richard E Grant in the film, and Richard is not a natural singer by a long stretch of the imagination. He had to deliberately sing slightly out of time to make it fit.
It is really weird to see a blonde 20 something actress with my singing voice coming out of her mouth. The Editor assured me that it’s believable and it’s just particularly odd for me to see someone with my voice…
The film will be released later on this year and features lots of lovely Mozart (and rather alot of shagging too). Something for everyone then!

Someone else has had my singing voice for years. (Well I certainly don’t have it.)
Sounds like my kind of film then.

Yep, there will definitely be a soundtrack to go with the film which will be lots of Mozart favourites with a fair smattering of Cosi. Will let you know more details when we have them. We are recording the tenor on Wednesday…

Singing and shagging? Will we possibly be exposed to actors singing Mozart WHILE shagging? Well, it COULD be something new in the annals of opera…
What? You singers had to sync to the already-recorded film of the actors miming? I’d always thought they let the professional singers record the track properly, then let the actors act like they were singing and lip-sync to your voice. Live and learn!
